HIV and AIDS People Alliance of Kenya (HAPA-Kenya) is a community-based organisation established in the year 2009. The Mission of HAPA-Kenya is to mobilise and coordinate resources for the prevention of HIV transmission and provision of care and support to the positively living MSM community. Key focus program areas for HAPA-Kenya are; strengthening the prevention with positive (PWP) program, sexually transmitted infection, engaging in and advocacy of HIV/AIDS prevention, care and treatment, engaging in research to find a solution to problems affecting positive MSM, economic empowerment and strengthening the home-based program. The areas of coverage for the organisations are Changamwe, Jomvu, Kisauni, Nyali, Likoni and Mvita Sub-counties all in Mombasa County.
The HIV and AIDS People Alliance is the implementing partner for the KRC program in Mombasa county working with men who have sex with men. The objective of HAPA-Kenya KRC program is to expand demand for and access to quality, effective HIV prevention, care and treatment services to 2097 Men who have sex with Men in Mombasa County. Strategies put in place to achieve the objective include; Provision of comprehensive HIV testing services to MSM at the Drop-in Centre, HTS integrated community-based outreaches at the hotspots, Key stakeholders engagements, Hotspot based peer education, Peer Educators and service providers training on provision of quality MSM friendly services and involvement of MSM network in programming.
The HIV and AIDS People Alliance of Kenya worked with 52 men who have sex with men Peer Educators and contacted 2268 peers all reached with peer education, HIV prevention services and commodities. The PE were closely monitored by 6 Outreach workers whom offered support supervision at hotspot level.
